The Power Lunch opens the spring season with a late lunch hosted by sociFamous Dave and GSpotDCand a panel of successful entrepreneurs from the local area. The lunch is designed to rid the District of the ‘crab in barrel’ stigma that hovers over the area and to share pertinent information for those that are looking to excel to the next level.
Event facilitator, Famous Dave lead the cozy conversation between Sultan Adbullah, a well-seasoned Urban Fashion entrepreneur, ShaQ Jones, the “mompreneur” manager, DJ Anonymous, the maestro of music, Brittnay Hall, the revamped reality star, Andre Terrelle, the” face-beater” of the famous, and Tony Lewis, the relatable and passionate local philanthropist and a room full of guest eager to hear the stories thereof. The message from each of the panelist was synonymous: stay consistent, know your support system and keep them alignedwith your goals, create organic relationships with everyone from the top to the bottom, stay focused and give good customer service within your respective industry.
There were a few jewels that stood out during the conversation. Tony Lewis, local community leader and self-published author and philanthropist shared the following: “if you are diligent/consistent in your craft and message, your substance will prevail over any stereotype that may precede you based on your nameand demographic.” DJ Anonymousalsooffered a few tips for the general public: “find a mentor in your respective industry and learn from their mistakes, learn to brag about yourself in the places where you want to be heard.
“Mompreneur” Manager, ShaQ Jones, gave the ladies some food for thought; she let the mixed crowd know that women need to be assertive in their careers, especially in the entertainment industry. Shealso expressed that being called, a word that rhymes with ‘itch’, is not necessarily a bad thing all things considered. There are worse things to be called, if you are not assertive in your position.
The lunch was insightful and intriguing. Something you definitely need to put on your to-do list for the season. Look for the next Power Lunch by way of Famous Dave (@famousdave87) and GSpotDC (@gspotdc).
